12.2.2016
Hello,
Windows 10 Pro, Intel I7, 65 Bit , 32GB RAM, 2 * 2TB HDD
I was using a previous version of VM with just one Unbuntu 32 bit machine and decided to upgrade to 5.0.14
But when I wanted to create a 64 Bit Ubuntu VM under new->Name-> Type:Linux -> Ubuntu-> Version
I am only being offered 32 bit machines - no 64 Bit machines at all. Not even for Windows.
Can anyone one advise ?

I had checked these points mentioned in the answer and all was set correctly.
So I am still stuck.

I had tried that - using duckduckgo - and found that it was not a help. Must answers were on the line of make sute you have a 64 bit machine.
But I feel that answers were to be found here, because that is what Forums are for.

So, you tried all three basic steps
1) You have a 64-bit CPU.
2) You have enabled VT-x in your BIOS.
3) You don't have anything else running that might be using VT-x exclusively.
and it's not working for you? Something does not compute... I would bet #3.

You have not checked all the points in the FAQ, otherwise your problem would be solved. Look again. Read each checkpoint carefully. Set preconceptions aside.
Start by posting a VM log file (any VM). With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

1) yes
2) yes
3) no

Wrong, I did and the trouble is still there.
It Hyper-V time, I think

By all means use what works for you.
But if you think that posting that here is going to upset anyone (because you can't possibly think it will get you better service), you're wrong.

No I did not think that. But I will try it. Your reply is rather arrogant.

This problem is obviously only on my computer. I have asked someone to come and visit me and help to see if
another programme has access to the VT-x - Since I last used the old version about 7 days ago, there have been extensive installs of
some scientific programmes. I wonder if that could be the cause. He is an experienced VM user and can well make a contribution to
help and offering detailed technical infomation as needed.

Hello,
Since this is a pure VM Forum I think my problem lies outside the Groups theme.
However this could be interesting for you.
I could be rightfully acccused of sending a help request without first really checking my HW, but the BIOS was set to active
and I thought that was enough. My apologies.
I have canceled the helper since this looks like a HW compatibility problem and certainly not a VM related problem
I spent most of yesterday restoring an older disk version that had none of the new Software.
and have no VM machines defined so have no log.
If anyone is interested here are the result of my detailed Information.
I have conflicting Information regarding the VT-X :
I
n my Gigabyte Bios Virtualiserungtechnik is set to "active" as is VT-d.
I used two information sources from Intel :
1)
http://ark.intel.com/de/products/80807/ ... o-4_40-GHz
which shows that my CPU can use TV-X - BUT that mark after the (VT-x) is the cause of concern:
Intel® Virtualisierungstechnik (VT-x) ‡ Yes
2) I then downloaded the I
ntel Processor Identification UItility which shows:

You could start with providing us the Virtualbox logfile as asked above. Then we could see what is detected by Vbox.
