I have tried reinstalling countless times. I have 8.04, 64 bit. After setup, I mounting the iso (ripped from the CD for faster speed), and started it. I get nothing but a black screen, and that's it. I have tried every possible solution I've found and have nothing. According to a friend, it should provide me with a screen telling me to install a system if I haven't mounted a cd or iso. I do not get this screen either, just a black screen. I do see the interface of the system, but this happens when launching any virtual machine. Further information:
Here's what i am seeing when launching the machine (too large to embed, so to not take up space there's a link):

also, i get this when trying to close it. I cannot press any keys that make it do anything, sort of like it's frozen:

Help would be greatly appreciated

[Ubuntu] Strange Black Screen?
I have the same problem
Tried all the recommended settings, but nothing helps.
I waited a month to see if any fix is on the way - but still, I get a black screen upon the first boot. disappointing!
I use Ubuntu 8.0.4 and Virtualbox 1.6.2
Anyone?

I have a similar problem here with Ubuntu 8.04.1 32 bit host and Virtualbox 1.6.2. Black screen appears in Vista guest after upgrading from 1.6.0 (including reinstall of Guest Additions for 1.6.2).
For me, uninstalling Guest Additions in Vista safe mode helps. Of course, this brings a couple of severe limitations (no networking, no shared folders), but at least I do have a minimal working setup.
By the way, RDP doesn't work either when the screen stays black.
I'm hoping 1.7.0 is appearing soon and is solving this issue.
