Hi All,

I'm trying to make running my excel with RTD functions (real time data) in virtual box (I tried win xp and win7), however from some reasons, it does not work there. I installed there application, which serves the data as well, so I would expect the same behavior as is in normal windows. Application which serves the data seems to work ok.

Can anybody please advise, what could be the root cause ?

If you are passing your RTD through a network, you may not have your network set up properly. Just a shot in the dark, because there isn't enough info in your post to answer better.

Actually I do not pass anything through network. Both Application and excel are installed in virtual machine - so there should not be any problem with network. Application which serves data for RTD works ok.

Additional Info:

Used Virtualbox: 5.0.14 r105127, Guest installed (same version)
Host: Windows Server 2012 (64bit)
Virtuals XP (32bit) or Win7 (64bit)
Used Office: 2007, 2010

If you are not using a network then how is realtime data acquired? There are no data capture devices in your VM, unless you grabbed some kind of USB device and didn't mention it.

Windows running on virtual hardware is still Windows. It isn't a simulation, and VirtualBox is not responsible for the running of the guest OS or any third party software you install. If you have a problem with the third party software then you really need to ask whomever makes that software.

Application which serves data for sure uses network connection, but as I wrote, it works without any issue - it has own UI where I can see, that data are there and are periodically refreshed.

I would also expect that this has to work, because it should be standard windows installation, but apparently there is something on top, which blocks it.
Therefore I tried XP as well as Win7, Off 2007 as well as Off 2010, but without success.

When I tried it on mine Win7 (local pc), or directly on the host windows server 2012 machine, everything works without any issue. So I suspect that it is somehow related to virtual box. I do not know details about this RTS COM automation implementation, if there is a chance that it can be influenced by virtualbox at all or not.

If you have installed the Guest Additions, try uninstalling them. This way there won't be anything Virtualbox in the guest. Also, try disabling all the Virtualbox network cards and see if anything behaves differently. Have you done all the updates to your MS Office software? Maybe one that influences RTD is missing.
