VirtualBox 5.0.14 Windows Host
Vm with dynamic disk I mistakenly deleted a snapshot and vm and 'locked and does not start there' way to recover and or rebuild the disk?
I was trying to delete a series of old snapshots to free disk space, there are several.

Suggestions?

Thank you

Update -
I was able to start an old snapshot, losing the data after the snapshot deleted as per attached picture.
Attached img error when I try to restart the last snapshot.
Thanks for your help.

A snapshot chain is a series of differences from the previous state. If you delete the state <N> file using the host OS then all states >N are lost, permanently. Unless you have a backup of course.

For future reference (and other readers):
  1. Never use the host OS to delete snapshot files. Always use the VirtualBox VM manager window.
  2. Better yet, avoid snapshots altogether. Yes, they are quick to create than a full backup, but they do NOT save you disk space and they are NOT substitutes for backups, as the above episode shows.
