Auto-resize Windows 10 guest display stops after some time

I am using Virtualbox 5.0.14, Ubuntu 14.04.3/16GB RAM as the host and Windows 10/2GB RAM as the guest. The resize works after a reboot but stops after some time, I have to reboot the guest to fix it. I am seeing this issue only with Windows 10 guests, so perhaps it is Windows 10 Guest Additions related?

You seem to have the Hyper-V API enabled for the guest. Any particular reason? Personally I wouldn't go with belt and braces. Since the GAs are installed I would see what happens with that alone.

Hi,
I did not explicitly enable the Hyper-V API. The GUI shows 'Default' for the Paravirtualization interface under Accelaration, and I have enabled VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging.
Is there another setting?

Hi,
The VBox.logs of my Windows 7 guests did not show traces of the HyperV API. Comparing the Windows 7 guest settings to the Window 10 guest settings showed that the Windows 7 guests use 'Legacy' for the Paravirtualization Interface under Accelaration. I am testing the Windows 10 guest now with 'Legacy' instead of 'Default'.

I would try "None" instead of legacy. If you intend to install the GAs then I don't know why the guest needs to see a paravirtualization API.

Hi,
Using 'Legacy' for the Paravirtualization Interface under Accelaration for the Windows 10 guest did not solve the issue. I checked the WIndows event log and it showed Event ID 4113: 'Display driver VBoxVideoW8 stopped responding and has been successfully disabled' each time this happened. The workaround is easy: launch Device Manager, right-click on the 'VirtualBox Graphics Adapter for Windows 8' under 'Display adapter', disable it and enable it. But see also ticket
#14409: there is a new build of the Guest Additions that should solve this issue.

Good find, thanks.
