Bug and Workaround - Virtual Machine is inaccessible.

Post by kriskizlyk »

Just wanted to report a bug, and a workaround. I have a virtual machine on a different partition of my hard disk so that I can access it with a Windows 7 Dual Boot system. I have a separate .vbox file for both Ubuntu and Win7. Actually, if anyone has experienced this before a solution would be appreciated!

BUG: With a fresh boot of Ubuntu 15.10 a Virtual Machine is inaccessible error appears , see example below:

Runtime error opening '/media/kriskizlyk/kk_archer_storage/VHD/Windows7_64/Windows7_64.vbox' for reading: -102(File not found.).
/home/vbox/vbox-5.0.14/src/VBox/Main/src-server/MachineImpl.cpp[740] (nsresult Machine::i_registeredInit()).
Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {yiddy yadda}

WORKAROUND:
Navigate to that drive using the the file explorer and the virtual machine is now accessible.

Is the .vbox file located in an external mountable hard drive? Is Ubuntu preventing/delaying access to remote HDs unless needed? Is your action to browse the contents forcing that "need"?
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

The drives and OS are located on a separate partition but on the same hard drive. Yes, I have to physically "pick" the external hard drive in Ubuntu for the error to resolve, the error will not resolve until this action is done.
