Linux Guest VPN Setup

Hi, guys. I am very new to VirtualBox as well as Linux (installed it in VirtualBox yesterday for the first time, cool stuff) and am in desperate need for some assistance and suggestions.
The problem im trying to solve are this: the programs installed in VirtualBox with CentOs 7 need to connect to the VPS via VPN only. After the VPN failure the VirtualBox internet connection would be terminated (think Kill Switch feature). All other traffic from the host machine should go normally via LAN. I plan on using a router with VPN capability. Is this hard to implement ?
