Connecting OEL 7.2 Virtual Box to WLS instance on Windows 7

I have a WLS 12.1.2 instance running on my Windows 7 desktop. On an OEL 7.2 virtual box on the same host, I’m trying to run a program which should attempt to log into the application running on the host WLS. But I get a "No available router to destination" error.
I have three network adapters configured in VirtualBox (NAT, Host-Only, and Bridged). I’m able to see web sites from the outside world from my guest box (Google, etc.). Moreover, I can ping the guest from the host and I can ping the host from the guest – those both succeed. I checked iptables and it appears to be disabled.
Anyone have an idea how to make this work?
Thanks for your help!
Best regards,
Chris Loschen

I should add that I've tried using the DNS name (which I also added to /etc/hosts on the guest box) as well as the IP address for the host. I'm using VirtualBox Version 5.0.14 r105127.
Thanks!

Does anyone have any help for me on this? It seems like it should be very simple, but I don't seem to be finding the right way to do it.

I suspect either a configuration issue or something on the network stack. All you need is Bridged and not the other two virtual adapters that could be causing the confusion.
Establish a single bridged connection and verify the addresses and that the can talk to one another then look at the configuration of the WLS and the client side as well.
Make sure firewalls are not interfering as well as making sure the proper ports are open on both host and guest.
Note: VirtualBox bridged just adds a filter driver to the hosts network stack. If it works it works and all other considerations are not VirtualBox. The only exception is if you are running on WIFI and that might be an issue but it is still not a VBox issue. Some APs/routers do not handle the filter driver properly.

Hi Perryg,
Thanks for the reply!
I took your advice and disabled the host-only and NAT network adapters in the VirtualBox settings. To do that, I first powered off my Linux guest, then unchecked the "enable network adapter" checkbox for each of those adapters, leaving only the bridged adapter enabled.
I then restarted the Linux guest and tested that I was still able to reach the outside world -- I am. However, when I tried to ping my host box, I got this:
[oracle@dhcp-burlington9-2nd-A-east-<guest IP> ~]$ ping closchen-pc
PING closchen-pc (<host IP>) 56(84) bytes of data.
From dhcp-burlington9-2nd-A-east-<guest IP>.usdhcp.oraclecorp.com (<guest IP>) icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
From dhcp-burlington9-2nd-A-east-<guest IP>.usdhcp.oraclecorp.com (<guest IP>) icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
I did set up the /etc/hosts file on the guest to map "closchen-pc" to my host IP address.
As you can tell, I'm inside the Oracle network. I have the standard McAfee firewall from the Oracle base image set up on my host box -- I don't think I can adjust that, but if I'm wrong, let me know.
The settings for my bridged adapter are:
Name: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-LM
Adapter Type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM)
Promiscuous Mode: Allow All
MAC Address: 0800271AAA6C
Cable Connected checked
No port forwarding configured
Any suggestions?
Thanks again for your help.

If the guests are able to reach the Internet and can see each other then the issue is not with VirtualBox. Look at firewall issues and see if the host has ICMP enabled. By default Windows disables ICMP.

OK thanks.
I'm using McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention (HIPS). I don't see any settings for ICMP but I do see some which are specific to "VM Bridged Traffic" inbound and outbound. That's allowed, but there are no Destination VMs or Source VMs specified -- I don't know if I should have the VM address specified here. Unfortunately, I can't control the settings for it -- it's controlled by the corporate IT folks.
I'm still able to ping the guest from the host and that succeeds, but with the bridged adapter, I get the "Destination Host Unreachable" error I mentioned when trying to ping the host from the guest.
I'll open a case with IT to see if their settings are causing the problem -- anything else I can do from my end?

I was able to disable the McAfee firewall (as well as Host IPS and Network IPS) on my host entirely, but it didn't make any difference -- still getting the same error as before.

Not a lot more I can add here. It still sounds like a local issue either ports blocked or configuration issues.
If the guest can see the host and the internet the virtual adapter is doing its thing.
