Just cannot get virtual box to open it downloads as a data.tar file like bookcases
it comes with a winzipper but will not open the virtual box
any advice would be very appreciated

- What is your host?
- Where did you get VirtualBox from?
- What is the complete filename of your download?
- Did you make sure it is not corrupted?
- How do you try to open it?
- What happens? Error message? What is it?

This thing is stupid i'm trying to post a reply its telling me i must be a member 1 days and have 1 post before posting urls
i have no urls and i have been a member for more then on day!!!!

Anyway i still cannot download the file No Error massage it goes through the same procedure without opening the virtual box icon

the file downloads look like a book case from the main virtual box site it come with winzipper but its a waste of time

Virtualbox, when downloaded from the official site, doesn't come as a data.tar file. See https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

If "data.tar" is a pre-made virtual machine you must also install the Virtualbox application for your host PC from the above link.

Dont understand why its not opening i have had virtualbox downloaded and opened in the past!!!
but now not working the downloads is (VirtualBox-5.0-5.0.14_105127_fedora18-1.x86_64.rpm) i click to open
i get a box coming up saying cannot find software to open this file ??

It might be a problem with your download.

im downloading this Fedora 18 ("Spherical Cow") / 19 ("Schrödingers Cat") / 20 ("Heisenbug") / 21 i386 | AMD64 load for linux host

my pc is running windows 8.1 Now i was able to download virtualbox for windows, but i thought i had to download the linux download?
i was told to learn ethical hacking i needed linux NOT windows sorry new to this

VirtualBox is just a program. If your PC is running Windows 8.1, you need to download the Windows version of VirtualBox and install it on your PC.

After VirtualBox is installed on your machine you can create a virtual machine. This is when you have to decide what OS you want to install in the vm. If you want to run a Linux OS, download the ISO file for the OS of your choice to your Windows PC and use this ISO to install Linux in the vm.

Have you ever installed an OS on a physical machine? The process is very similar.

Thanks for that i'm learning so in the dropdown box i have put type is linux,and vision as ubuntu do i now need to download ubuntu....and then kali linux ?

Please read the manual, it will have all the info you need to get a new guest running.
