Black screen on startup
Black screen on startup
Hello,
I just installed VirtualBox and trying to run Kali Linux.
The installation went good but when I start, it never boots but instead gives me a black screen. I have searched for this problem but haven't found a solution.

Re: Black screen on startup
Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

I hope this is the right one

Re: Black screen on startup
From booting at 4.3 sec to suspending at 11.8 sec. Are you sure you shouldn't wait for more than 7.5 sec for a machine to start up? Especially when you're taking almost all the available memory of your host?00:00:04.343922 VMMDev: Guest Log: BIOS: Booting from Hard Disk... 00:00:11.845293 Changing the VM state from 'RUNNING' to 'SUSPENDING'
I would lower the RAM to 1536 MB (max) and increase the VRAM to at least 16 if not 32 MB. And wait a little bit longer. And shut the VM down, not suspend it.00:00:01.498260 Host RAM: 4096MB total, 2433MB available 00:00:01.602058 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000080000000 (2 147 483 648, 2 048 MB)

Re: Black screen on startup
I've lowered the RAM to 1538 mb and increased the VRAM to 16 mb.(Also tried 32mb) And started it, still have a black screen and waited for a response pretty long now. Shouldn't it boot immediately? Also how do you shut the VM down and not suspend it? Kinda don't see an option for it.

Power down? (http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/images/vm-close.png)

And how on earth did you change the RAM and the VRAM since the VM was suspended? You can't do that AFAIK...

It was powered off when I changed it.

Re: Black screen on startup
Hey,
I think the problem is now solved. What I did was that I reinstalled, turned the RAM down to 512mb and when I installed Kali I got to choose a hard drive to boot from and not choose one manually and now it works. Something like that.
