Invalid Drive D:\ When installing VirtualBox

In the past, I downloaded VirtualBox on a USB flash drive. I now no longer own that drive, and I want VirtualBox back. So I went on the website, got the latest version, and started the setup. Almost right when it starts, it gives an error:  Invalid Drive: D:\. It then tells me the following:
Oracle VM VirtualBox 5.0.14 Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again.
I try the setup again, reinstalling the setup, deleting the connections to the drive, rebooting my system, everything I can think of. Nothing solves the problem. :( Running Home Premium 64-bit with Intel Core 2 Duo. HLP PLZ THX.

I'm afraid this is a Windows installer problem, and as such I would expect if I were to look for problems with the Windows installer rather than the program being installed. One thing you could try is to run the installer with the "-uninstall" flag.

I would be better to give us precise error messages.

I suspect that this is probably similar to the "msi file missing" errors that you get if the MSI file from a previous install has been deleted. The Windows installer tries to uninstall the old files first before installing the new software - but it can't, because it can't find the control file (MSI) which describes the last install.

I suspect that the slight difference in error messages is due to the software having been installed from the root folder of a drive that is not currently connected. The solution will however be the same:
