USB devices

Post by ngeezer »

Running Windows 10 under VirtualBox Version 5.0.14 r105127 on Kubuntu 15.10. Have Guest Additions running and the latest extension pack (both down loaded and installed today (1-22-2016).

Have not been able to get the USB devices connected to Windows 10.

I have checked under "Devices" and the USB 3.0 controller is active. But not device and no "filters" (whatever they are).

How do I get the USB devices (printers, a scanner and APC UPS) connected?

Is your user name in the vboxusers group on the host?

Ahhh -

Tried to add user name to vboxusers group and have not been able to do so.

Used the following:

sudo useradd -G vboxusers name

just tells me that 'name' already exists.

Then tried
sudo usermod -a -G vboxusers name

followed by
groups

does not list vboxusers as a group to which I am a member.

Is the group vboxusers membership "locked" by vbox?

In a host terminal run this:

Code: Select all

sudo usermod -aG vboxusers <your username>
Replace <your username> with the name you use to log in. Type your user password when prompted.

Be sure to log off and back in to finalize the change in permissions

Note: If you are using the Ubuntu repo version of VirtualBox all bets are off and you will need to ask them for help.
