Windows Xp very slow

Post by Gerdabino »

Hi,

I've installed VirtualBox since a month. It works great.

But since a some days Windows XP runs very slow. It requires ~10 seconds until I can click on a button or ~30 seconds the start menu opens after a click, but one of mine CPU is working with 100% for VirtualBox.

System:
AMD 2,8 GHz (two cores)
~4 GB RAM (~1 GB used by VirtualBox)
Kubuntu 8.04 (32 Bit)
AMD-V is enabled

VBoxManage --version
1.5.6r28266

uname -a
Linux mypc 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Some idea?

Thanks a lot!

But can you explain what is the reason?

I thought, AMD-VT should speed up vms...

Does it now work? Then its fine.

The reason is a Bug in Versions prior to 1.62.

But i dont think that the performance is better with AMD VT.

It works fine, thanks a lot!

I thought "AMD virtualization (AMD-V)" and "Intel VT (IVT)" should help to better and easier emulate the hardware:

At the moment it really helps for some things:

- Xen can run Windows but this (but very slowly)
- VMWARE can run 64 Bit Guests on 32 Bit Hosts
- VirtualBox needs this for some Guest OS like OS/2

In my test environment this gives all, but not more speed :)
