Installed Xubuntu w/ Guest Additions and I do have a working internet connection (have tried both bridged and para-virtualized (virtio) connections), but long downloads fail and I have very high latency (200 ms). Using apt-get seems to be more resilient, but using bundler or trying to download Chrome via Firefox repeatedly fail after a couple seconds.

I'm using a 4 year old USB wireless network adapter, so I'm not sure if that could be the issue. Any thoughts? Things to try?
