3D acceleration working briefly, then failing

Post by Vthie »

Hi all,

I am running Windows 7 as a guest within Arch Linux, using VirtualBox 5.0.12. I have installed the guest additions within the virtualized Windows, including the WDDM support, and activated 2D and 3D acceleration in the vbox settings. The guest receives 256MB video RAM, and 6GB RAM (out of 8 total - I am only running lightweight applications in the host when the VM is running). After boot and login, the Aero theme is briefly used, but it then switches back to the classic theme, and I cannot change it manually. According to DxDiag, both DirectDraw and Direct3D are activated. Running a game (Deus Ex) results in Error ("Initializing Direct3D failed").
The graphics card is a Radeon HD7850, using the open source ATI drivers in Arch.

As a side note, this is a box using a raw file system. I can dual boot the same Windows, which works perfectly fine, but I do have the Windows Radeon driver installed. Could that maybe interfere?
