Error Message on VM boot up

Hi. Im getting the error message while in Windows 8 OS trying to launch Virtual box so I can run SAS University Edition on it. Its saying the following:
VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration not available on your system (VERR_VMX_NO_VMX)
Certain guests (OS/2 and QNX) require this feature and will not boot without it.
I need this to work for class.
Does anyone have a work around solution?

1) 64-bit guests need hardware-virtualzation enabled in the hosts bios.
2) when creating the 64-bit guest you must select 64-bit in General -> Basic -> version.
3) If running Windows as host you must make sure hyper-v or xp mode is not enabled on the host. MS does not play well and wants it all.

Perryg,
Will it work then if as a 64-bit guest I select 64-bit in General -> Basic -> version?
Thanks!

If all three steps are followed then yes it should work.

Perryg,
Thanks.
That sounds like it should work except I am already set-up as a 32 bit system and it won't let me change it in the settings.
I don't want to start over.

Sadly you really can not just change the setting if you think you want to change to a 64-bit guest. If however it is the 32-bit guest stating you need VMX enabled that would be strange indeed.
Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.
Then I can better advise you.

If you click the link below you will see that your CPU does in fact support VT-x ( VMX mode )
http://ark.intel.com/products/71070/Int ... e-2_90-GHz
But this is why only 32-bit guests are avaiable.
- 00:00:00.761973 HM: HMR3Init: Falling back to raw-mode: VT-x is disabled in the BIOS for all CPU modes
Just enable hardware virtualization in your bios and you will be able to install 64-bit guests. Unfortunately you can not change a 32-bit guest to 64-bit guest as they use different kernels.

Can you direct me to specifically enable the hardware virtualization in the bios?
Now that you mention it, I did see an error message regarding a missing kernel.
Thanks!

You would need to ask your PC manufacture how to do that. Almost all I know of post the instructions in the owners manual or website.
