I want to change the screen resolution. I see from the forum one can enter commands in the Virtualbox manager command line. I cannot find a way to get to this command line. How do you enter commands?

Host details? Guest details? Any examples of what exactly you want to change and where you got it from?

"EFI provides two distinct video interfaces: GOP (Graphics Output Protocol) and UGA (Universal Graphics Adapter). Mac OS X uses GOP, while Linux tends to use UGA. VirtualBox provides a configuration option to control the framebuffer size for both interfaces.

To control GOP, use the following VBoxManage command:

VBoxManage setextradata "VM name" VBoxInternal2/EfiGopMode N

Where N can be one of 0,1,2,3,4,5 referring to the 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1440x900, 1920x1200 screen resolution respectively."

This came from this forum.
My Ubuntu installation only allows me to select 640 x 480 on a 1920 x 1200 monitor. Note the cutoff of the display.

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

First, you don't need to use the command lines. If you do you will be stuck with a fixed sized display and not have any of the features installing the guest additions provide.

You can just install the guest additions.
See: Installing Guest Additions.

I do not think I am logged in as a Guest but as an administrative user. I do not see anywhere a list if applications except the ones on the left of the screen. I do not see how I can get to the Applications folder.

It seems to me that the video drivers for other resolutions are missing.

OK and Thanks. I figured out how to load the guest additions. This solved my resolution and screen issues. But I still do not see how I can select and run applications.

Can a green hat please move this to Linux guests or OSX hosts forum please?

This message will self destruct after the move
Edit: Apparently, I cannot delete my own message after a reply has been posted, so it's here for eternity. Damn you Lou :D

You mean in Ubuntu? You would have to check the Ubuntu forums. This is not a "How do I use Ubuntu" forum.
