Installing a USB flash drive to copy files

Post by alanmsn »

I have VirtualBox on my Win10 laptop and I am trying to copy a number of XP files to use elsewhere and I wanted to use a memory stick. I have downloaded the correct extension pack but when I try to install it I am continually told I must have administrator rights. I am the only user and am listed as administrator on the host and the guest but I just can't proceed. Any ideas please?

I would copy the files from the vm to the host, then write them to USB from the host. I never use USB devices in vms.

You will need to use the host only adapter to copy from guest to host (or vice versa).

Another possibility is to mount the USB drive as a shared folder. It isn't actually necessary for the guest OS to own the USB interface: let the host OS look after host hardware.
