Cannot install guest from ISO image on Ubuntu host
Posted: 7. Jan 2016, 21:32
Host: Ubuntu 14.04
VirtualBox 4.3.34
Guest OSs I have tried:
Linux Fedora 23 64-bit Live ISO image
Linux Fedora 23 32-bit Live ISO image
Linux Mint 17.3 64-bit Live ISO image
Linux Debian 8.2 64-bit Live ISO image
Description:
I am attempting to install a Linux guest but am encountering the same problem with several different Linux images. I use the default settings suggested by VirtualBox when creating the VM.
When I start the VM, I select an ISO image from a local harddrive. The guest OS ISO image then boots, and displays a list of boot options ("Install", "Test this image" etc). These are options provided by the guest ISO bootloader. I then select any option. The size of the VM window then may change and always turns all-black. A few seconds pass and the window then closes. Status in VirtualBox UI is that the VM "Aborted". I attached my VBox.log.
This problem occurs regardless of which ISO image above I select, suggesting the problem has more to do with my VirtualBox installation rather than the ISO images or guest OSs.
I am currently successfully running a Windows host plus a Ubuntu guest (created by vagrant) with my VirtualBox installation. I have turned these VMs off before attempting to boot any of the ISO images.
Any advice how to troubleshoot this very much appreciated!
