Guest Additions on OpenSUSE 42.1 Not Working Correctly

I realize OpenSuSE 42.1 is not officially supported at this time but I am experiencing some issues that are very similar to issues I was experiencing with OpenSuSE 13.2. The problem in 42.1 is that I can resize the desktop area with click and drag but the desktop size goes back to 640X480 after a reboot and I have to resize the desktop again. The shared clipboard isn't working, either.
Additionally, after setting the desktop size, rebooting and logging back in, the screen size is set to the custom size, just for a moment. Just long enough to see the outline of the desktop window at the desired size and then the window jumps to 640X480.
One user, a SAMBA 4 domain user, is in the users, vboxgues and vboxsf groups. The Linux administrative user is only in the users group. The problem occurs with both users.
A difference between 42.1 and 13.2 is that the administrative user could set the desktop size and the size would remain after a reboot but the other user, which is a SAMBA 4 domain user was unable keep the custom resolution after a reboot. Logging out and back in worked.

Did you remove the pre-installed guest additions and install the official guest additions, install the official guest additions on top of the pre-installed ones, or are you just using the built-in guest additions?
I removed the pre-installed additions then installed the official guest additions. I have no problem with screen size across boots and shared clipboard works.

Hello to all ... I try to explain what happens to me. I've installed suse leap 42.1 and I tried to install virtualbox 13.2, because there is no one official distro for leap, with the official guest...I need it because i use the usb port for upgrade some device (apple), but still switch of video drivers ... there is no correct version for suse 42.1 or it could be possible to make virtualbox more stable waiting right version?
Thank you all

Currently, I'm using the pre-installed guest additions. I would like to try removing the pre-installed version and try the downloaded version but OpenSuSE wants to reinstall the pre-installed version automatically. Also, the version numbers are the same so it isn't logical that there would be a difference, though I'm not arguing your point. Can you tell me what the correct way is to stop OpenSuSE from trying to reinstall the pre-installed guest additions?

I'm going to have to go look. I thought I had blocked OpenSUSE from installing their GAs but apparently not. I just updated and now I'm in the same boat. I'll look at it.

To stop OpenSUSE from reinstalling it's own GAs, you need to open Yast>Software Maintenance, search for virtualbox, right click on "virtualbox-guest-x11" and choose Taboo - Never Install.
You don't need to download the GA .iso. It's part of the VirtualBox application. Just choose "Insert Guest Additions CD Imageā¦" from the Devices menu. If you are running Gnome, a dialog will open and you just click Run. Not sure what the KDE version does other than mount the .iso. You may have to install the GAs manually.

I'm typing this in as I follow the steps that loukingjr outlined.
I uninstalled the three virtualbox-guest-xx packages that were installed. Then, went back into the Software utility and marked the three files as Taboo. Restarted the VM to make sure the files were completely unloaded and removed. Logged in and the VM resolution was back to 640X480 or 800X600 but it also messed with the mouse movement so I couldn't verify the actual resolution. Installed the guest additions by using the Devices menu to mount the ISO and then ran the installer from the ISO. Realized that gcc, make and the kernel development modules needed to be installed so I did that and then reinstalled the guest additions. The guest additions were finally installed successfully. When attempting to log out I increased the width of the desktop because I couldn't X out of Files. That didn't work but I didn't expect it too. When I did log out the desktop size for the login screen adjusted to the new size. Logged back in and the size stayed so I made the desktop size larger and then restarted the VM. That worked so I made the VM desktop almost fill the entire 1920X1080 host window size. On a VM that I've since removed, the issue occurred mostly when the desktop size went over a certain, unspecified size. So far, so good so I completely shut down the VM instead of restarting it. Upon logging in again the desktop size is the same as when I shut down.
It worked. I hope it stays that way. Not sure what I missed on the other VM that didn't fix it. As a bonus, my shared folder also mounted automatically.
Thank you for your assistance.
