Virtual box wont run with XP mode installed.

Post by warrenc »

Using Microsoft Windows 7 Pro with all the latest windows updates.
I have ready that if I have patched or modified the UXTHEMES.DLL file, this error will occur but, to my knowledge I have never intentionally modified or patched that file. Not only that but I can't rename that file anyway, Protected. Even as administrator, I can't rename or replace that file.

It seams that Virtual Box Version 5.0.12 r104815 will not start ANY client when Microsoft XP Mode is installed in the Microsoft Virtual PC environment. Several older versions of Virtualbox ago, I tested that theory by uninstalling Microsoft Virtual PC/XP mode and Virtual box worked after that.

I get error message in virtual box.

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine win xp.

Unable to load R3 module C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox/VBoxDD.DLL (VBoxDD): GetLastError=1790 (VERR_UNRESOLVED_ERROR).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

This error occurs For any client, Be it android, Linux or Windows of any version.

Anyone have any idea how to get Virtual box to start a client with Microsoft Virtual PC (XP mode) is installed?

I'm considering upgrading to Windows 10 but I want to make sure I can get XP working in a Virtual Process be it licensed or not. I know how to install XP. But I can't get Virtual Box to work on my Windows 7 machine.

Thanks.
