VMs in multiple locations

Post by ahmadt »

Hello everyone,

just want to check if this is possible and how to do it in easy way

I have multiple VM for work that I store them in an external USBn storage (because of the size).

Now I want to install some personal VM in my macbook, is there anyway I can tell virtual box to install this VM in my local disk? because most of the time I don't have the external USB with me and I want to run my personal VM :(

Can this be done?

That is the normal way to run it. You have to do something special to install on an external disk.

How did you modify the system to make it install on an external drive?

Hi BillG

I don't think I explained my question right.

all my virtualbox VMs are located at /Volumes/myusb/vms/

now I want to create a new VM in virtualbox but I would this VM (only) to be stored @ /Users/me/Documents/

is this possible? because I don't see any option when creating VM to set the location of the new VM.

You set the folder for new VMs using File|Preferences|General|Default Machine Folder.

There is nothing preventing you from setting this to a different folder every time you create a new VM. It does not affect existing VMs.
