I have migrated from Windows 8 to 8,1 and since then I have problems with VBox.
I tried to uninstall 5.0.10 - unstall failed. I finally removed it with revo, then cleared a lot of remnans in registry and files, but 5.0.12 still fails to install.
The full log attached

Be sure to use "Run as administrator" when running the VBox installer.

Re: VBox 5.0.12 on WIndows 8.1 install failure
I'm not sure I can help you with this. Installation and uninstallation is handled by the standard Windows installer, not by VirtualBox. While a problem in the VirtualBox install package is possible, I would expect everyone to be affected, not just you. Plus I'm concerned that, first you had an unspecified uninstall failure (implying an installer registry problem?) and then you used a third party snake oil tool to force the uninstall - not totally successfully, if I'm understanding what I see in the log. Until persuaded otherwise, I'm seeing a Microsoft support issue here.
Had it been me then I'd have searched the registry manually for "VBox" references. I've never needed to do it myself, but others have.
