I have a problem which I do not know if the problem is Virtualbox, Snapshot or Windows 10.
I use Snapshotdrive as an image backup tool. See drivesnapshot.de
I had occasion to try restoring an image which resulted in the usual restore messages ending after the success message with press any key to reboot.
In the course of the reboot Windows gave a message SYSTEM EXCEPTION THREAD NOT HANDLED
and then Win 10 tried to diagnose the system and attempt repairs. The repairs never finished.
This being a Virtualbox VM freshly installed with Windows 10 Pro it leaves me with an unusable VM.
This is not a problem, I can install a fresh copy of Windows 10, but I would not want it to happen to my Host machine.
Is this a VB problem or a Win10 pProblem or a Drivesnapshot problem.
Researching with drivesnapshot.de and will also try MS.
Host Win10 Pro 64bit
Guest Win10 Pro 64bit

Re: Restore from Image fails
Maybe they're not Windows 10 compatible yet? No mention of Windows 10 on their English website, that I saw as of 12/30/15.
If I wanted to confirm that restoring worked on the host, I'd add another drive to the host & switch the drive cable to the new empty drive after the backup and before the restore.
If this is partly a Virtualbox problem, trying the backup & restore on your host would be an entirely different animal, as you probably know well. Virtualbox would just be one of the applications running (and I wouldn't run a backup on the host while a VB guest was running, btw).I would not want it to happen to my Host machine.

Excellent thought I may have to employ it.
