upgrade

Post by Maxproi »

Ciao,

Dovrei fare un upgrade dalla versione from 4.3.34 alla versione 5.0.12, sapete gli step per effettuarla ?

Si perdono le configurazioni delle vecchie immagini ?

Grazie

Software upgrades generally have no effect on data. However, making backups is never a bad idea.

You just run the installer. Good practice recommends that if you upgrade to a new major version (e.g. v4 to v5) then you uninstall the old version first.

As I already said, software updates have no effect on data, so there's no need to be concerned that you will lose your VMs, any more than updating to a new version of Microsoft Word might lose your .doc files. It is a non issue.

That is the Ubuntu fork of VirtualBox, not the version we support here. If you are asking how to update an Ubuntu package then you should ask on the Ubuntu support site.

If you are asking whether you can upgrade from the Ubuntu 4.x fork to the Oracle v5 version then I believe the answer is no. You should uninstall the Ubuntu VirtualBox first and then download the official build from the download page here, then follow the user manual instructions to install on Linux hosts.

I'm not an Ubuntu user so can't give you detailed instructions on how to uninstall software on an Ubuntu host.
