Can't find VirtualBox 5.0.1 msi file

Post by scotta0001 »

Hi

I am currently unable to update or uninstall Virtual box as it says I am missing the 5.0.1 msi file (VirtualBox-5.0.1-r101902-MultiArch_amd64.msi)

From other forum posts it suggests downloading this version again and running the installer before updating or uninstalling, however I can't find this version to download anywhere.

It isn't in the download archive.

Any help?

Did you try running the installer as an administrator?

Not sure what this will do to the Windows registry but did you try deleting or moving the VirtualBox folder from C:/Program Files/Oracle/VirtualBox and running the new installer again?

You can't find it to download because 5.0.1 was a test build, you were supposed to replace it as soon as 5.0.2 came out. I can't find 5.0.1 now either, which AFAIK now only leaves surgery on the registry as your only option: search for everything containing "VBox" or "VirtualBox" and delete. Then delete the C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox folder, and the "VBox<any>" files from Windows\System32. And cross your fingers (no guarantees here).

mpack is probably correct. I was hoping a simpler solution to avoid resedit may be possible. I certainly don't know Windows as well as he.

Thanks all,

I ended up deleting all "VirtualBox" references from the registry, deleting VirtualBox from Program Files and then installing 5.0.12.

All ok now.

Cheers
