Install Guest Addition 4.2.36 on Windows 10

Hi there,

we're using Oracle VDI solution on our customer and i can't use windows 10 due to guest addition install's error.

It runs OVDI v3.5.1 over Solaris 11.

The thing is OVDI only supports Virtualbox 4.2.* so i can't use higher versions.
We have 13 vms running on Windows 8.1. They're running fine with VB 4.2.36 guest addition.

But i need to upgrade the windows to 10.
When i try to install Guest Additions (4.2.36) it gives me a video error and it stops the installation.
I need guest addition so VDI platform can clone the vms and do all the other jobs.

Does anyone knows about it?

PS. I tried all the video 3d, 256mb, run in compatibility mode alternatives listed around. No success!

I believe you are on the wrong forum. Oracle VDI is not VirtualBox and you would need to ask the Oracle folks how to solve this.

Perry, actually not.

The issue is only with the virtualbox. Nothing related to the OVDI.
All the softwares are installed separated. So i only need to be able to install guest addition v4.2.* on Windows 10.

What is the exact version ( complete ) of VirtualBox you have installed?

The latest from virtualbox website, 4.2.36r104064

Very well. Post the win-10 guests log file ( as an attachment ) Compress it if it is too large too post otherwise.

FWIW, you need at least VB 4.3.34 for Windows 10 I believe.

So looking at your log it is having a real problem. Look at all of the errors and you can see it yourself.

I know they have been back-porting a lot of stuff to the stable branches but I don't see that it is going to work. Windows 10 support really happened during the 5.* branch and it may be that you need to upgrade. For that you would need to ask the DEVs @ bugtracker

Seems that when it finds the version 10 (major) it tries to assume 3D is checked (but it's not. if i check, the machine doesn't boot up)
so as it's not checked, it fails.

FWIW, I believe VB 4.3.34 was the first version that supports Windows 10 correctly. I think I said that recently.

As i'm using oracle vdi, i only can use virtualbox 4.2.*
think it's a dead end

Well as Perry mentioned they may backport the fixes to VB 4.2.* but I would think it unlikely. Can't hurt to ask.
