Upgrade detection broken?

I'm currently using VirtualBox 5.0.10 on OSX and saw a week ago that a new release is out. When I'm checking for updates in the UI, it says that I'm using the most current version though. Is the update detection feature broken? FWIW, I installed VirtualBox using brew cask if that might change something.

It takes time for Check for Updates to catch up. Same thing happens with the App Store. Anyway,

No. There is always a delay between releasing a new update and notifying users via the update checker. The delay can be quite long.
