Since I upgraded to 1.6.2 the XP guest on my machine cannot remember its display settings.
When I start the VM, XP has returned to 800 x 600 and has no other resolutions available. If I then drag the Virtualbox window sometimes the resolution will change accordingly, but sometimes the XP machine will stay at 800 x 600 regardless. In which case I shut down Virtualbox and restart it over again until I can resize the resolution.
This is weird as I'd expect it to either work or not.

I'm using VirtualBox for the first time, and I'm seeing the same behaviour. The host is Arch Linux, and the guest is Windows XP.
This may not be relevant, but before I installed Guest Additions, I was able to select from a range of resolutions in the XP guest. After installing Additions, I found only two - 640x480 and 800x600. After the next restart, it was down to 800x600 only. It's still resizable by dragging as you describe.
