USB Problems

Post by Shaggy123 »

My host is Ubuntu and I'm running Windows 10. I need to add some files to Windows, but I don't want to download everything from Google Drive. So I'm trying to get them off my USB flash drive. I've added Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.10-104061.vbox-extpack, but it's still not showing the flash drive on Windows. I've gone to Settings/added a Filter/ but don't know what to put into all the boxes except Manufacturer! Could someone pleases help me?

You need to add your user name to the vboxusers group.
In the Ubuntu terminal run this command

Code: Select all

sudo adduser <username> vboxusers
replace <username> with your log in name. Reboot.

You don't normally need filters with Linux hosts.

Never mind, I'n just downloading everything through Google Drive now, but I'd still like to know how to get my flash drive working through VirtualBox!

a few things…
1. If it is a USB 3.0 flash drive make sure the xHCI controller is enabled.
2. Check to see if it's listed in Devices>USB menu and select it if it is.
3. Of course make sure the flash drive is formatted with a file system the guest understands.
