Hi,
I try to use my old Vista 64bit installation as an VirtualBox Guest. Host is an Windows 10 64bit.
I get an out of resource in a few devices and I do not find the reason. The original computer hat an AMD processor and the new host is an Intel I5. May be this cause the problem.
See attached screen shot for the actual messages. Every shown device has the same ressource problem.
TIA
Dirk

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Can I assume that this guest started out as an OS on metal, and you used something like disk2vhd to try to build it for a virtual machine guest?
If so has this guest ever worked properly?

Hi,
yes it is disk2vhd I uesed to build the image. And no, this virtual client did not work right until now. The last time I created a copy of an old running maschine like this it worked perfect. Is it not the right way to create a client from an old harddisk? Is there a way to get it running?
TIA
Dirk

It is the best way to create a windows transplant, but there will be issues as you see. The more the difference the more work that is required.
Looking at the log file I do not see that VirtualBox is unhappy at all and the guest is where all of these issues are more than likely happening. The new ( virtual ) hardware and the old ( on metal ) drivers are not matching and you need to address that. Usually one would remove the items that indicate an error and then scan for new devices which should pull in the proper ones.
That said I do not do windows and can not help further. I would suggest that you backup the base now and then see if you can repair the OS in standard windows fashion.

Hello Perry,
this is the way I tried before. But I did not find the specific driver that cause the problem. Can you see anything more? I think it mus be a special driver for the old hardware that makes the trouble.
TIA

Like I said VirtualBox does not really seem that unhappy so it must be the guest. Hard to say what needs to be done but if this OS was tied to an OEM specific machine it may never work properly without the original install CD and maybe not even then as they ( some of them ) do tricky things to keep it from working on other machines.

Can we possible have an English translation of the original error message? Google can't translate images of text.

My translation:
Für dieses Gerät sind nicht genügend Resourcen verfügbar (Code 12)
For this device are not enough resources available (Code12)
The other one tells us, we have to deactivate an other device in this PC to use tghis device.
For me at looks like a problem with IO addresses, ports etc. An old device driver is blocking resources and prevents the use of the new VB one.
TIA

Yes, I think it's probably a mismatch between the Windows installed image and the (virtual) hardware it finds. The quickest solution is to boot from the setup cd/dvd and "Repair the installation".

Hi,
ok that worked. A n other solution was to use sysprep /generalize to force new hardware recognation.
Thanx,
Dirk
