"USB3.0 (xHCI) Controller" option greyed out in USB Settings

EDIT: I think the problem was that my VM was running. Needed to stop the VM then go into settings.

OS X (El Capitan) Host running on MacBook Air Mid-2012, Windows 10 Guest

In "USB Settings", the "enable USB controller" is greyed out, as are the three radio buttons that belong to it:

I've just followed http://www.htpcbeginner.com/install-vir ... x-windows/ which basically said "download the extensions pack" ( at time of writing: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... ox-extpack ).

So I have successfully installed the pack (by going to VirtualBox's settings) and restarted VirtualBox.

However, this doesn't change anything.

How to move?

The guest has to be shutdown to change them. Not running or in a Saved State.

You can not change the USB controller while the VM is running (or in a saved state).

Restarting everything (including my MacBook) fixed it.

Thanks everyone!

hmmm, you shouldn't have needed to restart your MacBook or VirtualBox. (scratching head).
