Problem sending CTRL+Something to VM

Hi there.
I installed Ubuntu server 32 bit 14.04.3 in VB 5.0.10 r104061 and since it doesn't have UI, I need to edit some file with CLI editors such as nano.
I need to send commands like CTRL+X and others, and couldn't find how to do this. I used CMD+X, CTRL+X, ALT+X, etc, no success. I tried as well switching to Mouse capture.
OSX 10.10.5
Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Ctrl-X, should be Ctrl-X, unless you went into the VirtualBox preferences, Input and changed the default key bindings.

I connected a USB keyboard and worked.
My Mac has Latam Spanish layout. That could be the issue.

It certainly sounds like it could be the issue.
