Hey everyone,

Every time I open Windows 8.1, the Mac freezes for 2 seconds, and then restarts twice. I'm not sure what to do... this problem has plagued my computer since early version 4 versions. I cannot access my Windows 8.1 any more... can someone give me a way to post the log information so that we can work together to diagnose this problem please?

Thanks a lot!

With the VM fully shut down, right click its icon in the VirtualBox Manager, select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Gotcha. There were multiple log files so I attached everything I could. I am almost certain that the problem is in all of them, most likely in the Log4 file. Thanks so much.... looking forward to one of y'alls replies.

Well two things…
1. only asked for one, the vbox.log. not vbox.log.1, vbox.log.2 etc.
2. didn't ask for it to be renamed.

I'll fix the one I downloaded. But you should reattach the correct one for others to use.

First problem,
00:00:02.625521 Host RAM: 8192MB total, 1354MB available
00:00:02.987720 RamSize <integer> = 0x00000000a0000000 (2 684 354 560, 2 GB)
You have more RAM assigned to the guest than you have available.

Also, see this: Kernel Panics since upgrade to OS X 10.10.4
or this: https://www.google.com/search?q=Kernel+ ... 8&oe=utf-8

Oh wow, I think that solved it! I've decreased the guest ram so that there will always be sufficient space. Thanks a lot sir!!

However, is there any way for the computer to automatically free ram when it is needed?

Thanks again.

OSX automatically clears memory when needed. You just have to be careful how many Apps you have open on your host.

Weird restart just occured. I was sure I had enough available RAM to do this. I also had the VM completely shut down when I opened it. I was wondering if you can have a look a the log please.

Thanks!

00:00:02.837057 Host RAM: 8192MB total, 2160MB available
00:00:03.084495 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000080000000 (2 147 483 648, 2 048 MB)
00:00:03.084900 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000008000000 (134 217 728, 128 MB)
Still too close to all available RAM. The rule of thumb for a guest is approx 1/2 the available RAM.
2GB is the same as 2048 MBs btw.
Also, try it without running anything else on your Mac.

However, It still may have to do with the Kernel panics with OSX 10.10.4. Did you look at the links?
