Upgrading an XP VM to Win7

Has anyone successfully upgraded an existing XP VM to Windows 7, 32 or 64 bit?

There is no official upgrade path between XP and 7, it's just too different an OS.

You can do it from XP to Vista and then from Vista to Win 7.

Also, there is no upgrade path from any 32 bit Windows to 64 bit Windows if that is what you are asking.
