The phone is normally connected only to the host system (via USB). I don't need the phone at the guest system, but it should work with the host system when running the VMs. Also, this worked in the past like a charm, also with the ICH AC97 controllers. I am not sure when this was broken, but I think with the update to Virtualbox 5.x.x.

The screens look normal. I guess I read your first post incorrectly. You are saying when you start a VM the phone stops working on the host?
Make sure the phone is not checked in the Devices menu. It sounds like the VM is capturing the device from the host which it shouldn't do unless explicitly set to.

As long as I can see this, the phone is not captured by the VM via USB. I could not see it in the guest system via lsusb and Virtualbox doesn't show a checkmark in front of the USB device Polycom CX600. But when I physically disconnect the phone from the host, then the call "Computeraudio" is interrupted. And after this I can reconnect it and it work as it is expected with the host system. Also there are no dmesg messages that something was connected to the guest system. Crazy, isn't it?
loukingjr wrote:btw, do you have any USB filters set in the guest?
To be honest, in the years I've been on this forum I've never heard of a guest capturing a device from a host without setting it to. I have multiple computers running multiple OS's and guests and it's certainly never happened to me.
What I guess you need to do at this point is file a report on Bugtracker. Include the vbox.log, system info etc.
And if you could post the link to the ticket here that would be helpful.

Bugreport seems to be a good idea. At the moment I am not sure under which summary I should file this...
Intel HD Audio not working under Ubuntu 14.04.3 guest and Windows 7 host
or Polycom CX600 gets call from Computeraudio when starting VM with ICH AC97 controller
or both of them???
Maybe I will think about it until tomorrow.
Btw... the behavior with the phone is independent from the guest OS. It already starts the Computeraudio call when starting the VM BIOS.
Well you said it does the same thing with ICH AC97 selected. I don't think the Intel HD audio controller would help. I still don't no why that's not working though. I would go with some combo of both.
Hopefully there will be an explanation forthcoming.
Most welcome.

The behavior with the Polycom phone is only with the ICH AC97 controller, not with the Intel HD Audio controller and not with the soundblaster controller. Maybe this is because I don't get the other ones to work within the VM, but that is just guessing
