Changing bridged adaptor of running guest

Post by AlexSII »

Hi

I have a Centos 6.6 guest running on a W10 VB 5.10.

At work I have NIC0 bridged to a specific windows nic. But when I take my laptop home its a different nic, similiar names, when i go into the config of the running machine to change it to the new nic it seems to work, but in the guest it doesn't pick up any thing.

The only way to get the new nic working is to poweroff the vm and restart. reboot doesn't help.

Is this the only way to change the underlying nic for a bridged nic

I have ifdown and ifup the interface, rebooted the vm.

run tcpdump (I have allowed promisc mode).

Seems like whilst the VM is powered on it remember the powered on nic it was bridged to ..

Then you should create two interfaces one for work and one for home and configure them accordingly. Leave them active and and if necessary run dhclient to refresh the IP from one location to the other.
