iTunes on Windows 7 guest

Post by Pipppero2007 »

Hi all,
just a curiosity, I want to install iTunes on my VB (latest version) Windows 7 64 bit Pro virtual machine.
What I'd like to know is if I will be able to use iTunes in order to sync and backup my iPhone (using the "USB" from host to guest fuction).
In my host machine (Windows 8) I don't have iTunes installed,

There have been good and bad stories with iTunes syncing in a VM. Just try it and see if it works. Also, take a look at several other posts that deal with that: itunes site:forums.virtualbox.org

socratis is correct. There are good and bad stories. More bad than good near as I can tell. You'd be much better off installing iTunes in your host.

I have Windows so I can use the host (but I don't like iTunes that's why I asked that) but how do people who using Linux? Because iTunes is only for Win and Mac! I think they NEED iTunes working on VBOX.

Yes, they do. And some of them work, some don't. There is no general rule of thumb. See the link in my previous post and try to sort things out from the success stories. If it does work, let us know.

BTW, the majority of the problems seem to be with the VM recognizing the iPhone, not with the syncing itself. Of course, if it works, you're not going to see a post on the forum, so success stories tend to be a little hush-hush... ;)

FWIW, if you have 5GB or less to sync you can use iCloud on your host. No need to install iTunes.
