VB can't create child process after installing Visual Studio

Post by Brickstone »

Hello,

I had Visual Studio 2012 installed and had no problems.
Then I installed Visual Studio 2015 and after that my VB got Problems.
The error Message I get is:
supR3HardNtChildWaitFor
Timed out after 60001 ms waiting for child request #1 (Close Events). (rc=258)

where: supR3HardNtChildWaitFor what: 5 unknown Status 258 (0x102) (258) - Unknons Status 258
I also get this one sometimes:
The virtual machine 'ubuntu64' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). More details may be available in '...VBoxHardening.log'.

Code: Select all

E_FAIL (0x80004005)
MachineWrap
IMachine {xxx-xxx-xxx-xxxxxxx}
However, sometimes, when I wait a long time, the virtual machine will eventually start and almost fully functional. When I then click away the error message(s), the virtual machine will instantly terminate.

I also uninstalled everything, that was installed through the installation of Visual Studio 2015. I then reinstalled VirtualBox as well, but getting the same error messages.

My System:
Host: Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit)
Guest: Ubuntu 64bit
Hardware Virtualization: Enabled
DOTNet Framework: Now 4.5 - before VS2015 install I don't remember. Maybe 3.5 or something...

I would be soooooooo grateful, if anybody can help! I feel naked without my virtual machines working properly :(

regards

Well? Where's the log? Zip it before you attach it. And, BTW, please do not try to obfuscate the information by replacing what you think might be sensitive information with xxx-xxxxx-xx-xxxxx. It doesn't help us, and there is nothing sensitive revealed in the logs.

My gut feeling is that it has nothing to do with VS, but it has to do with the hardened security issue (take a look at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=67840). Also, these days Avira updates are really messing people's systems. Are you running Avira by any chance?

Hi socratis,

thank you very much for the quick reply!!! Sorry for not providing the log. I had problems submitting the post, as I wrote ".net" and then the forum parser thought it's a URL which is forbidden. As I didn't know that, I had to fiddle around until I could submit. Then I forgot to add the log.
This time the log is there.

Thank you for the link. I will try the latest testbuild and post further information there.

Also, yes! I am indeed running Avira. And it indeed seems to updated itself as about the same time, as the problems started. I will try to also go after that trace!

edit: It also seems like avira is working on it: https://answers.avira.com/en/question/a ... lbox-45586
I will wait for the next update and hope the best. And I will update as soon I I know more. Thank you very much for the trace!

regards

Well, there you have it! Your only solution at this point is to either uninstall Avira (or VirtualBox) or to wait for the developers (of both pieces of software) to come up with a solution. Trying the test builds is your best option at this point.
