won't install Win 98SE

Installed virtualbox, successfully.

Named an operating system to run in/under virtualbox, Win98SE, successfully. Or rather I should say that I successfully set up an operating system in virtualbox. Set aside RAM, hard disk space etc.

When I try to run the operating system it tries to find the OS, which is on Win 98SE CD-ROM in dvd/rom drive. However, it states that there was no boot medium in the drive:

Plus, when the Win 98SE install disc was placed in cd-rom it gave that menu screen I remember from years ago:

When the third option down from top, "browse this cd", is clicked an error message appears:

I think this is separate from virtual box.

What I thought would happen is that virtualbox would go out to the cd-rom drive and load the operating system off the disc and install it on my laptop's hard drive in memory set aside for it by the virtualbox. Then I could run said OS and do whatever I was planning. That's all I wanted to do was run Win 98 for some old software. I have virtual box up and running and an operating system specified in virtualbox. But I cannot get the OS loaded onto hard drive. So, there is no OS for virtualbox to run. It looks at first glance as if either my laptop with Win 8.1 cannot for some reason get onto this particular cd-rom disc or it is virtualbox itself that cannot get onto this disc (to load OS). Every other disc I place in the drive is responded to by Win 8.1 on my laptop, so I know it's not the optical drive.

Anyone else ever had problems loading OS off a disc thru virtualbox?

Having never owned or used Windows 98SE I would have to say the CD you are using is not an install CD but a Utilities CD to be used once Windows 98SE is already installed.
