Hello, I have a Mac book Pro using El Captain
I need to use windows on my Mac for a project - I had Virtual box a few years ago, must have uninstalled it at some point. Reinstalled 5.10 today.
When to open the VB i get this Error:

Runtime error opening '/Users/katrinakrewson/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 7/Windows 7.vbox' for reading: -102(File not found.).
/Users/vbox/tinderbox/5.0-mac-rel/src/VBox/Main/src-server/MachineImpl.cpp[740] (nsresult Machine::i_registeredInit()).

Result Code:
NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component:
MachineWrap
Interface:
IMachine {f30138d4-e5ea-4b3a-8858-a059de4c93fd}

Please help! I am not as knowledgeable in the area and am learning on the fly.
Thanks in advance!

The error message is quite straightforward - "File not found". This probably means that you moved or renamed or deleted the ".vbox" file after you registered it with VirtualBox. See the error message and ensure that the named path and file exists, and your user has permission to access it.

I'm having the exact same issue. I create a new machine, then start it for the first time, select the install disk (where the OS is to be installed from) and then boom, same issue. Happens every time. Have tried multiple builds and nothing seems to work.

What installation media are you using? If it is an ISO file, you assign it to the vm's dvd drive. If it is a physical CD/DVD you insert it in the host's dvd drive and set the option (in the settings of the vm) to use the physical device.

That doesn't sound like the same issue at all: the OPs issue is nothing to do with installation (of a guest). But, since you give no details it's impossible to say what your problem actually is.

In fact, on rereading the OPs issue, I suspect that a VirtualBox.xml file was left over from a previous VirtualBox install, but the VMs themselves had been deleted from the host. Deleting the VirtualBox home folder contents would fix the problem. On Windows hosts the home folder is <userdoc>\.VirtualBox, but ISTR the folder name is different on OS X hosts.

That would be "/Users/<username>/Library/VirtualBox/"

Which won't be visible in OSX 10.11.1, so while in the Finder, you have to hold down the option key and select Library from the Go menu.

I left out…
You can also select "Go to Folder…" (Shift+Cmd+G) and type in the path.
