Workaround to Drag & Drop Issue

Post by over_clox »

I'm using VirtualBox 5.0.10 and have been having an issue with Drag & Drop from guest to host not working right:
Drag & Drop fails from XP Guest to 7 Host

I've been using Dropbox to get files between my guest and host to remedy this issue for now, and I have other reasons for using Dropbox in my guest too. What I'm wondering though is whether it might be possible to tunnel through to my host's Dropbox instead using a Shared Folder and a symlink/junction in my guest XP system to substitute for Dropbox in my guest and eliminate the synchronizing and occasional snapshot overhead?

I'm developing software and my project is tied to Dropbox now, and I need to keep the same folder structure as Dropbox has to basically spoof my general build scripts.

So basically, this isn't as much of a VirtualBox question really but more a question about Windows XP.. is it possible to set up a folder symlink or junction in XP?

Generally speaking, you can't share a share. What you normally do instead is to join the network which publishes the original share. That said, it would do no harm to try. Bear in mind that GA Shared Folders are not intended for complex functions. If it doesn't work then you can try a true network share.
