my vm do not appear in virtualbox

I installed virtualbox in my new laptop. It is 5.0.10 version. When I create a virtualbox using provisioner, e.g vagrant, it does not appear in the virtual box console. Or some time it does but in wrong state. For example, even the box ix running, it shows stopped.

I will appreciate. It is so annoying. I unintall and reinstalled. Still same.

I used to see the vm in my older laptop. But I am seeing a machine created in virtual box console.

Thanks
J

Vagrant isn't supported on these forums, even though they use Virtualbox. You'll have to ask them about your issue.

But fwiw, I do know that when a guest is made under one host log-in account, it will not appear in another host log-in account unless special arrangements are made. Also, guests started in a different account than the one you logged on with will not show proper status in the Virtualbox GUI window. This happens a lot on Windows hosts if you run the guest as a service or with the Task Scheduler.

I understand this forum does not support vagrant but to me this problem seems of the virtual box issue. I had same setup with my earlier laptop, and spinning up boxes with vagrant has no issue not even a single time and even I did not know this issue at all.

I am trying to explore anyway.

If you remove the Vagrant program and use just the standard Virtualbox downloaded off www.virtualbox.org, and then still have the problem, we may be able to help you fix it.

Is your old laptop identical to your new laptop, as in same host OS, same Virtualbox version, same Vagrant version, same Extension Pack, same guests? There's likely something different there somewhere, which may cause different behavior between the old and new laptops.

Guests not showing up in the GUI or that don't show the correct status in the GUI stem from wrong-log-on-account issues.

Yes, same os( windows 7) and same virtualbox version 5.0.10.

If I create a virtual machine from virtualbox, it seems okay. I have not done complete test, but when i created two vms, I was able to do without any issue

However, when I created virtual machine using vagrant, it behaves strangely.
1. it does not appear in the console
2. When I stop and start virtualbox, it appear but when I create another, it override the same directory although i have different hostname and vm name.

I will post this to vagrant forum. The virtualbox side seems alright.

Thanks
J

I think this may give some clue
==========================
Bringing machine 'default' up with 'virtualbox' provider...
==> default: Setting the name of the VM: example200
There was an error while executing `VBoxManage`, a CLI used by Vagrant
for controlling VirtualBox. The command and stderr is shown below.

Command: ["modifyvm", "5f010c0c-34e6-49af-a822-75973c407076", "--name", "example
200"]

Stderr: VBoxManage.exe: error: Code E_FAIL (0x80004005) - Unspecified error (ext
ended info not available)
VBoxManage.exe: error: Context: "LockMachine(a->session, LockType_Write)" at lin
e 493 of file VBoxManageModifyVM.cpp

Would this give clue to the issue? I think eventually vagrant also uses virtublbox tool inside the wrapper.
