I'm running VB 1.5.6 on a Windows Server 2003 host. HW is a Dell PowerEdge T105 server.
I have enabled the serial port on my Windows XP guest via the Settings->Serial Ports dialogue in the VB GUI. The settings I've used are:
Port Number: COM1
Port Mode: Host Device
Port Path: COM1
The Windows XP virtual machine starts with no issues - but the guest OS does not see any COM ports at all. I've verified the COM port is working fine via the host OS using hyperterminal and a modem. The port also appears in Device Manager on the host box. But no matter what I try the COM port never appears in Device Manager on the guest box.
Is there more configuration required to get the COM port working on the Guest machine?

Re: Serial port not appearing in device manager on XP guest
set 1?in the setting page, you configurate the com1 0x3F8 IRQ4 , namedpipe \\.\\pipe\guest-com1
step 2?run the windows xp guest
step 3: in the control panel, you run the new hardware program.
setp 4: following the step, choice new hardware item, then the guest os will detect com1.
