I am running Virtualbox 5.0.10 r104061 in a Windows 10 Home environment with two guest VMs both running Kubuntu.
Yesterday when I started one of the Kubuntu VMs I saw a string of 5 identical error messages (Failed to connect to Virtualbox kernel service, rc=VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).
I then noticed that the shared folders I had set up to allow programmes in the Kubuntu VMs to access folders on the Windows host no longer worked. The folders were listed in root>mnt but no files were visible.
I thought this may have been a result of a recent update to Virtualbox, so I re-installed Virtualbox 5.0.10 r104061, but I still couldn't access folders on the Windows host from the VM.
I then noticed that the following packages had been installed during a Kubuntu security update the previous day:
virtualbox-guest-dkms (Version 4.3.34-dfsg-1+deb8u1ubuntu1.14.04.1)
virtualbox-guest-x11 (Version 4.3.34-dfsg-1+deb8u1ubuntu1.14.04.1:)
virtualbox-guest-utils (Version 4.3.34-dfsg-1+deb8u1ubuntu1.14.04.1:)
I forced a downgrade to these three packages - and I can now access the folders on the Windows host.
The Kubuntu / Ubuntu Virtualbox packages listed above are not provided by Canonical - anyone know who needs to be told of this issue?
Thanks, Paul

Re: Kubuntu Virtualbox guest - problem with acces to host fo
The three files mentioned are pre-installed in Kubuntu, albeit earlier versions. They should be removed and the VB 5.0.10 GAs should be installed from the Devices menu.

OK thanks - I already have Guest Additions installed but will remove the 3 packages from the guest environment.
