Display driver VBoxVideoW8 stopped responding

HELP!
Error is "Display driver VBoxVideoW8 stopped responding and has been successfully disabled."
I'm running Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela with Cinnamon desktop. I've had this same/similar issue with v17 Trusty previously - seems to have started with Windows 10 or an app (my thought is maybe Outlook). Same problem occurs in Pro and Enterprise - running x64.
Here are the specifics:
-If I run both 2D and 3D mode, it seems as if VirtualBox will abruptly abort my VM randomly for no reason that I can tell. VboxManager just says Aborted.
-If I run just 2D mode, sometimes when my workstation auto-locks after 10 minutes, the screen shrinks down to a 640x480 size screen and I see the above error about the driver crashing in my System Log in Windows. Rebooting restores everything back to 1920x1080
-Another thing I noticed, was that if I ran Outlook (tried 2013 and 2016) WITH hardware acceleration, the VM would freeze up to the point of being usable and I had to kill vbox processes to restart my guest. Without hardware acceleration, Outlook seems to work ok, but again, the display drive crashing still occur.
None of this seems to happen while I'm active in my VM - only seems to happen when I let it turn the monitor off/auto-lock Windows (I don't allow standby or hibernation on my VM)
I have no idea where to start in troubleshooting it, but its annoying as heck
Anyone who has some ideas would be appreciated!!
