Cannot start Directory Service 2003 R2 on VB

Post by BrettF »

This VM does run under Windows 7 Virtual PC but when I try to run it under VB "as is" on same Windows 7 box, I get a "Security Accounts Manager initialization failure because of the following error: Directory Service cannot Start." Error status 0x00002e1. Please click OK to shutdown & reboot into Directory Services Restore Mode, check the event log for more details.
I opted to not do this, ensure RAM, CPU & disk hardware is matched. I can restart VM in Windows 7 Virtual PC again, successful, no errors. Shutdown, try to start in VB, get the same error, what am I missing?
I am reluctant to do a AD Restore as it starts fine in the Windows 7 Virtual PC Manager.

Right added info to follow; Windows 7 64bit is host (8GB RAM) (Intel QUAD 9400 VT-X enabled CPU), Windows 2003 R2 (SP2) 32 bit is the guest (2GB assigned & 1 core as per Win7 Virtual PC settings). The build of VB is 5.0.10 r104061. Log file attached. I have NOT installed the Guest VM tools because I was unsure if this failed if I could start it back up in Windows 7 Virtual PC. The other item, I do have "Undo Disks" enabled on Windows 7, wasn't sure if that may be causing some unexpected issue.

Solved it myself, can't have undo disks enabled, once I merged the disks, it started.
