El Capitan and Windows 10 SLOW

Post by J-Phil »

I upgraded to Version 5.0.10 r104061 on OSX El Capitan with a Windows 10 32 bit VM that has been running perfectly for months, including on El Capitan. Now, it is too slow to be used. Seconds pass between a mouse click and activity and no other configurations have been changed. I have experimented with the Paravirtualization interface, which really has made no difference. I am hoping the next version will help, but please, if you have any suggestions, I'd love to try. All other settings are 'in the green' e.g. base memory, 4 CPUs, 100% execution cap. Cheers

In order to better understand the problem you need to submit some more information. Please read the following: Minimum information needed for assistance. As far as the VBox.log.zip goes, here's what you do:
- Start the VM.
- Observe the error.
- Shut down the VM.
- Right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager.
- Select "Show Log..."
- Save it, ZIP it and attach it in your response.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

You're over-committing RAM…
00:00:01.890212 Host RAM: 8192MB total, 2909MB available
00:00:02.048385 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000164c00000 (5 985 271 808, 5 GB)
You can't assign twice as much RAM to a guest as you have available. Normally approx. 50% of the available RAM is good.
You should also reduce the number of CPUs for the guest to 2.

That is a perfect solution. For the record, I don't believe I altered these values. I think the newest version of virtualbox must've just pushed the 'slides' to their maximums, requiring me to throttle back. Alternatively, I had them high before without impact. Whatever the cause, your solution has worked and I am extremely grateful for your fast and accurate response.

No. Installing software doesn't magically change data files.

Glad its working but mpack is correct. updating VirtualBox would not change any guest settings. Either you forgot or your Mac is haunted.
