Hi guys, I need your help in order to configure my VirtualBox.

I Have installed VB on Ubuntu and the virtual machine is Win XP. In XP, I have a software which uses a second network card to communicate with a PLC module. The first network is used for internet access.

For the first network card it is everything OK, I can access internet inside the VM (Win XP).

My problem is the second network card: I don't know how to configure VirtualBox for the second card. The software which communicates with the PLC modules uses a reserved IP address such as 10.1.0.35.

How do I have to configure Virtualbox or even the Ubuntu, ir order that the 2nd network adapter in XP has IP 10.1.0.35 as expected by the software in XP ?

You would configure VirtualBox to bridge the second VM nic to a PLC NIC on the host.

Beyond that you are asking how to configure an XP application to talk to a particular device, and I doubt we can help you there, as it isn't a VirtualBox problem. Do it the same way you would if you had two NICs in a physical PC.

For the XP VM I understood what you said.

The problem is how to setup the second nic on the host (virtualbox). I cannot see where I can specify the 2nd nic to bridge, it seems that I cannot choose the nic to configure.

As mpack said, this does not seem to have much to do with VirtualBox.

How do you communicate with the PLC module from the host machine? If the host cannot see it, there is no way that the guest OS can.

The description of your setup is a bit vague. Do you have two NICs in the host? Can you see the PLC device from either of them?

Are you asking how to add a second NIC to the guest? You select the "Adapter 2" tab in <vm settings>|Network, then you enable and configure it for bridged mode operation.
