verr_too_much_data

I got a new windows box and downloaded the latest vbox, ver 5.
I then transferred the vdi, red hat Linux, from my MacBook pro running the latest osx. I added it to the vbox manager and tried to launch it but got the fatal verr_too_much_data message.
How do I begin solving this?
